SOME FIREWOOD FACTS

All of our wood is sold by the cord, division of cord or cubic foot as regulated by law.

A Cord of wood is generally a neatly stacked pile of wood 4' high, 4' deep and 8' long equaling 128 cubic feet of wood. The stack does not necessarily need to be 4'x4'x8' but the total dimensions should equal 128 cubic feet.
It is prohibited in the state of California to sell fuel wood using terms other than "cords", divisions of cords or by the cubic foot (example: 64 cubic feet).

Almond wood is a hard wood, which may be difficult to light, but burns hotter than softwoods with almost the same btu as oak. Being a hard wood, you may need kindling or a softer wood to ignite almond or ANY hard wood product. Hardwood offers your best value for wood burning, and lasts longer because of the density of the wood. A cord of seasoned almond wood weighs approximately 2 times heavier than soft pine wood and burns 2-3 times longer.

Almond firewood has a very pleasant light and aromatic "nutty" smell when burning.

In the autumn and early winter, beware of vendors selling locally harvested pine and oak as it is mostly "fresh cut" or "green" wood and has not been properly seasoned for easy ignition.

The best way to store your firewood is off the ground to prevent moisture damage, covered on the top and open on all sides to allow "breathing".

CAMPING INFORMATION

Campfire permits are required at all undeveloped campgrounds, you are also required to have a shovel and source of water (bucket) when burning. Use the link at the top of this page to go to the USDA campfire permit page where you can get more info and save time by obtaining your permit online. In case you forget your shovel/bucket, we sell them at our retail store as well as other basic camping supplies and tools.

Some campgrounds and National forest roadways require permits, passes and or reservations, you can get more detailed info from the links at the top of this page.

Be wary of roadside vendors selling firewood, often the wood is fresh cut "green" wood that will be difficult for you to light. They may offer you better pricing, but when your wood doesn't burn, you'll be sorry! We want you to have an enjoyable campfire. Aside from our retail store, we will have a convenient parking lot sales location at the Lake Isabella Market on holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.

MOST IMPORTANT!! When visiting our beautiful valley, please BE SAFE and BE COURTEOUS! We live here 365 days of the year, PLEASE PRACTICE FIRE, BOATING AND CAMPING SAFETY, as well as PICK UP ALL OF YOUR TRASH. You wouldn't want us coming to your neighborhood, trashing it and then lighting it on fire.

Lake Isabella is one of the few recreational and fishing lakes where boating has not been restricted due to the invasive species of Quagga mussels. If you are not unfamiliar with the Quagga contamination, please read the Quagga Mussel Q and A by clicking here. It provides in depth information on how to prevent the spread of the species if you have been boating on other lakes.
